On the way home I made sure Mom, Dad, and Kai texted me all the photos they’d taken. I sent some of the best ones to Sierra and Allie that night before I went to sleep.

Their replies made me smile, but I was still kind of annoyed with them.

I missed you tonight, but you can make it up to me. Come over one day after school? I wrote back.

I can do tomorrow or Thursday! Allie responded right away.

What about you, Sierra? Can you squeeze me into your schedule?

Chill! Sierra responded. Thursday is free for me.

See you Thursday. I’ll see if Mom will order us Thai food, I replied, confident that Mom would say yes. She liked it when Allie, Sierra, and me got together, especially since we didn’t see Allie every day anymore.

Then, exhausted, I drifted off to sleep. This time I dreamed that I was trapped inside the town hall, and the line of people complaining about stuff stretched out the door for miles, and miles, and miles.…
